Often referred to as a BBL surgery, the Brazilian butt lift is a surgical procedure that is designed to enhance both the shape and size of the buttocks. A butt lift is a great way of achieving a more voluptuous and fuller lower body appearance.
BBL surgery is one of the many cosmetic services that we provide at Galanis Plastic Surgery. If you would like to learn more about this popular procedure, join us as we explore Brazilian butt lifts.
Why Undergo BBL Surgery?
While you may be able to alter the size and shape of your buttocks by exercising, squats and other popular lower body movements can only do so much to reshape your lower body. This is because the shape of the buttocks, like many other physical features, are largely influenced by genetics.
Every person’s skeletal structure is unique, as is the way that they store fat. As a result, some patients cannot achieve their ideal look, no matter how much they hit the gym.
BBL surgery can help patients overcome genetic limitations by reshaping the buttocks, thighs, lower back, and hips.
The Brazilian butt lift might be a good treatment for you if want to:
- Enhance your lower body curves
- Better fit into the latest fashions
- Reduce fat accumulation on the belly, thighs, or hips
- Improve your proportions
- Achieve a more aesthetically pleasing shape
With the assistance of a talented plastic surgeon, a Brazilian butt lift can effectively address all of these concerns.
Who Is a Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Since a Brazilian butt lift is a surgical procedure, candidates must be in relatively good health. This will be determined by one of our skilled surgeons during a comprehensive review of your medical history.
Other indicators of a good candidate include:
- Someone who does not want implants
- Someone who has good skin tone in the buttocks and hips
- Someone who has adequate fat stores in other areas of the body
If this sounds like you, it might be time to schedule a consultation with the experienced care team at Galanis Plastic Surgery.
What Does the Procedure Entail?
Before you can undergo a Brazilian butt lift or any other significant surgical procedure, you must first schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon.
During your consultation, our surgeons will review your health history, discuss the procedure with you, and address any concerns you may have. This planning phase of the treatment process is essential to producing optimal results that align with your aesthetic goals.
When you arrive for your BBL surgery, you will be placed under a form of general anesthesia, often using intravenous sedation. After this has been administered, the plastic surgeon will begin the procedure.
First, the surgeon will harvest the fat needed for the butt lift from a predetermined area. Common harvesting locations include the abdomen, thighs, lower back, or hips. The fat is harvested via liposuction.
Once the fat is extracted, it is purified. Next, our cosmetic surgeon will inject the fat into specific areas on your buttocks in order to reshape it and add volume.
The BBL surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, which means that you will not need to stay overnight in a care facility. However, you will need someone to drive you to and from the treatment, as the anesthesia can take a little time to wear off after your procedure.
The Recovery Process
While each patient experience is unique, you should be prepared to take at least two weeks off from work. You will also have to avoid strenuous activities for several weeks post-op. The care team will provide you with specific aftercare instructions during your consultation and on the day of your procedure.
In total, the healing process takes approximately six weeks. Barring any unexpected delays, you should be able to resume your normal activities after that time.
Butt Lifts vs. Buttock Implants
While both interventions are surgical procedures, the Brazilian butt lift is not as invasive as buttock implants.
Oftentimes, receiving buttock implants requires additional downtime and a lengthier healing process. Both of these factors make the Brazilian butt lift a more appealing option for many patients.
However, very lean patients may not have sufficient fat to receive a Brazilian butt lift. In these instances, your surgeon may recommend buttock implants in order to achieve your cosmetic goals.
Are Brazilian Butt Lifts Permanent?
The Brazilian butt lift is considered to be a temporary procedure. This means that some of the results are permanent, while others are not.
The skin tightening effects of BBL surgery typically last for approximately 12-15 years. In order to achieve this level of longevity, patients must lead a relatively healthy lifestyle. This includes eating a healthy diet and engaging in regular exercise.
Patients who fail to adhere to post-treatment recommendations may only experience skin tightening benefits for around 10 years.
While the skin tightening benefits will eventually diminish, the fat transfer is considered to be permanent. The area that the fat was harvested from will always have fewer fat cells, while the buttocks will maintain an increased number of fat cells.
