At Galanis Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, CA, our mission is to deliver beautiful, personalized results to each of our clients to help them boost their self-esteem. One of our most popular procedures is the Brazilian butt lift. Today we reveal everything you need to know about the duration of the results from this procedure.
Are the Results of the Brazilian Butt Lift Permanent?
The results of a Brazilian butt lift are considered semi-permanent. So, what exactly does that mean? The duration of the skin tightening results of treatment will typically last between 12 and 15 years if you lead a fairly healthy lifestyle. If you don’t take care of your health, the results may only last 10 years.
So, what about the fat transfer part of the procedure? The results of the fat transfer itself are considered permanent. Since adults can’t grow new fat cells, the donor area of your body will permanently have fewer fat cells. As for your buttocks, only the strongest, healthiest, 70% of fat cells survive the transfer, and once they do, they don’t ever go anywhere.
Possible Donor Sites
To determine if a particular part of your body will make a good fat donor site, you need to come in for an initial consultation. During your physical examination, we will measure the fat volume in your desired donor site and check it for adequate elasticity. Most of our clients choose their chest, abdomen, back or thighs to donate fat from.
How Do I Extend the Skin Tightening Results of My Procedure?
Especially when you wear pants, it can seem silly to apply sunscreen to your buttocks. However, we’d like to remind you that it’s possible to get a sunburn through clothing. Unless the tag on the pants specifically states that they protect against both UVA and UVB rays, lather up.
You should also try to avoid spending too much time outside between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM when the sun’s rays are at their strongest. And don’t forget to lay off the tanning beds. If you need to bronze up your new bubble butt, use a spray-on tan. We promise you look fine.
People have a general understanding that dehydration is bad for their health. But not so many people are aware that dehydration is particularly bad for their skin health. To extend the duration of the skin tightening results of your procedure, make sure you remain hydrated at all times.
How much water, tea and coffee you need to drink to stay hydrated depends on your weight, activity level, the humidity level in your home and workplace and how much water is in the foods that you eat. For instance, if you eat lots of fruits, vegetables and soups, your liquid needs will be lower. Aim for at least half a gallon of liquids daily.
Eat Plenty of Healthy Foods
Your skin sags as you age in part because your skin produces collagen at a slower rate and your existing collagen weakens. Collagen is a special type of protein that keeps your skin tight, smooth, hydrated and healthy-looking. To keep your skin tight for over a decade to come, make sure you’re getting enough collagen in your diet.
While collagen is a protein, you don’t have to eat beef or chicken at every meal to get plenty of collagen in your diet. Produce that is high in collagen includes pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, berries, leafy vegetables, citrus fruits and garlic, just to name a few.
Take a Nutritional Supplement
If you’re having trouble getting your RDA (recommended daily allowance) of micronutrients in your diet every day, it’s okay to take a nutritional supplement. Particularly if you have dietary restrictions, it can be difficult to get all the nutrients you need every single day. For the most durable skin lifting and tightening results, look for a supplement with:
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin E
- Vitamin K
Get a Massage
Full body massages aren’t just great for relieving physical and emotional tension. They’re also great for improving the efficiency of the circulatory system. This means that your circulatory system can transport the essential nutrients your skin needs to stay tight, young and healthy.
Even better? Most licensed massage therapists will use essential oil-infused massage oils during your session if you ask. These essential oils will lock in moisture while nourishing and tightening the skin. Ask your friends or coworkers if they know of a mobile massage therapist who will visit you at your home. That way, you get to skip traffic and use your time more efficiently.
How Can I Improve the Survival Rate of My Transferred Fat Cells?
Stop Working Out
You don’t have to stop working out forever. In fact, you shouldn’t. However, taking a load off during your recovery process is crucial for a stellar survival rate of transplanted fat cells. It can take three to six months for the transplanted cells to take hold.
There’s no telling where your fat cells will shrink when you lose weight. But even if you’re ready to get to your goal weight, aiming for weight loss isn’t worth the risk of the fat cells in your buttocks shrinking or not sticking at all.
Just because you can’t complete strenuous workouts doesn’t mean that you get a six-month hall pass to be a couch potato. In fact, walking is excellent after this procedure because it gets your circulatory system operating at maximum efficiency.
The stronger your circulatory system is, the faster you will heal. Your body will feel ready to fire on all cylinders faster. You will be more comfortable. Most importantly, the fat donor site (or sites) and your buttocks will receive the nutrients they need to heal quickly and properly.
Count Your Calories
If you’ve never counted a calorie in your life, you may wonder why you should start now. It’s important to count your calories during the first six months post-op because it mitigates the risk of you losing weight during your recovery process. To determine how many calories you need daily to maintain your weight, first calculate your BMR.
The formula men should use to calculate their BMR is as follows: 66 + (6.23 * weight in pounds) + (12.7 * height in inches) – (6.8 * age in years). Women should use the following formula: 655 + (4.35 * weight in pounds) + (4.7 * height in inches) – (4.7 * age in years). Once you get your BMR, get your total caloric needs by adding in calories burned during exercise.
Count Your Macros
If counting your calories seems too difficult, try counting your macros. Some people find that counting macros, or macronutrients, is easier than counting calories. There are four macronutrients – fat, protein, carbohydrates and alcohol. Fat is the most calorie-dense macronutrient, weighing in at nine calories per gram.
Alcohol is the second-most calorie-dense macronutrient, weighing in at seven calories per gram. Both protein and carbohydrates contain four calories per gram. However, you don’t need to count calories “contributed” by soluble fiber because your body doesn’t digest soluble fiber. You can find a free macro calculator here to help you get started.
How to Maintain the Results of Fat Donation
Just as there is no way to know where your fat cells will shrink, there is no way to know where your fat cells will expand if you consume calories in excess. If you gain weight after this procedure, the fat cells remaining in your donor area or areas may expand, negating some of the benefits of the procedure.
To keep your metabolism revved and your bubble butt popping, have a certified personal trainer teach you how to execute Olympic lifts properly. These incredible compound movements will target nearly every muscle in your body, from your calves, quads, hammies and glutes to your entire core, forearms, delts and tris.
Sleep Nine Hours a Night
Do you daydream about looking like Terry Crews or Kate Beckinsale? The best way to achieve your goal is to catch some z’s. Adequate sleep boosts your mood which mitigates the risk that you will overeat in response to negative emotions. This increases your likelihood of maintaining your newly sculpted, svelte figure.
As for packing on the muscle, sleep helps tremendously with that, too. While your brain is in REM sleep, your muscles metabolize the protein you consumed during the day and rebuild themselves after you’ve broken then down. This leads to muscle growth and increased strength so you can keep improving and keep your metabolism revved.
If you struggle to maintain your weight after hitting your target weight, you can break the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting by meditating. You probably eat emotionally without realizing it. Meditation will help you keep off the excess fat removed from your donor sites by keeping you grounded and helping you learn how to practice mindful eating.
It will also help you manage your emotions so you stop feeling the need to eat when you feel sad, stressed, bored or happy. To ensure you can maintain your weight after your Brazilian butt lift, practice maintaining your weight for a couple of months pre-op. While you’re at it, practice a couple of types of meditation to see if it makes things easier for you.
Practice Mindful Eating
Once you kick your carb cravings to the curb, you can slowly build trust in the signals that your brain is sending you. For instance, if you are craving a clementine, your body probably needs vitamin C to boost its immune system or collagen to strengthen its skin. It’s okay to indulge in citrus fruit as a nutritious snack.
Just be wary for a while until you feel confident in your ability to speak your brain’s language. For example, if you are craving a double bacon cheeseburger or orange chicken, you are experiencing an iron deficiency. Opt for a spinach and chicken salad to see if your cravings have subsided. Drink water if you’re craving salty foods.
