Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck

The most common causes of a loose, sagging, or protruding abdomen include aging, pregnancy, and significant weight fluctuations. A slimmer, firmer abdominal contour undoubtedly yields a more positive self-image. Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, involves removing excess skin and fat from the abdomen as well as tightening weakened or separated muscles. The procedure may be performed alone or in conjunction with liposuction to further enhance a patient’s physique. During your private consultation, Dr. Galanis will determine the most appropriate surgical plan to give you the figure you desire.

WHAT A TUMMY TUCK CAN CORRECT

Skin Laxity
Pregnancy and massive weight loss can cause excess abdominal skin laxity. A tummy tuck corrects loose abdominal skin by excising the extra tissue, producing a flatter, smoother surface.

Stubborn Fat
Many individuals suffer from stubborn fat deposits in the abdominal area that resist diet and exercise. Fruitless attempts to melt away unwanted belly fat can be disheartening, but a tummy tuck targets these problem areas. The result is a slender, more pleasing midsection.

Stretched Muscle
Sometimes a patient experiences abdominal bulging due to having stretched or weakened muscles. A tummy tuck repairs and tightens these muscles for a corseted effect, which sculpts the abdomen into a fit and gorgeous silhouette.

Tummy Tuck Options

Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck involves an incision just below the bikini line that goes from hip to hip. The skin is separated from the abdominal wall for repositioning, and the damaged muscles are tightened. This also requires an incision around the navel.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck requires an incision just below the bikini line that is much shorter than that of a full tummy tuck. Excess skin and fat are removed from the lower abdomen only during this procedure, and the remaining tissues are tightened. If done at all, muscle repair is only done in the lower abdomen.

Combinations

Liposuction: Liposuction is a fat reduction procedure that involves the use of a thin cannula to suction localized fatty deposits out of the body. Tummy tuck surgery is often performed in conjunction with liposuction to remove stubborn fat deposits and achieve the ideal result.

Mommy Makeover: A Mommy Makeover is a procedure package that addresses cosmetic concerns that arise after pregnancy or extreme weight loss. This combination of surgeries may include breast lift, breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tuck for a total body rejuvenation.

RECOVERY

Tummy tuck patients are encouraged to walk as soon as possible after surgery to promote circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots. They must wear a special abdominal binder for four weeks. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting must be avoided for six weeks. Tummy tuck patients will require at least two weeks off of work, depending on job demands.

COST

The cost of tummy tuck surgery depends significantly on the techniques used, anesthesia fees, and extent of correction. The office staff will be able to provide you with an exact cost following your tummy tuck consultation.

SCARS

The incisions created during tummy tuck surgery are placed in discreet locations that allow them to be hidden by clothing, and they tend to fade over time. A full tummy tuck requires an incision below the bikini line that runs from hip to hip. The incision used for the mini tummy tuck is shorter than that of a full tummy tuck, and so is the resulting scar.

PAIN

Pain after tummy tuck surgery varies depending on the techniques used. Oral pain medicine may be needed for up to seven to 10 days to minimize discomfort. Patients must not drive until narcotic pain medicine is no longer necessary.

FAQTummy Tuck

You will notice a significant difference immediately after surgery; however, due to residual swelling and bruising, the final results of your procedure will be visible three to six months into recovery.

You will be seen in-office at one week, two weeks, six weeks, three months, and six months after surgery. All sutures used during tummy tuck surgery are dissolvable, but drains will need to be removed at your first appointment. More follow-up appointments may be required.

The best candidates for tummy tuck surgery are concerned about the appearance of their abdomen, but they should also be in generally good health. Ideal tummy tuck candidates must avoid using tobacco products for at least one month before surgery and be at a stable weight for three to six months before their appointment.

Patients are advised to consider tummy tuck surgery only if they do not plan on becoming pregnant in the future. Pregnancy can compromise the results of tummy tuck surgery and may require revision treatment to correct the effects.
